Synopsis

A trio of childhood friends reunite for a camping trip on a woodsy getaway off the coast of Maine. Sarah, the group’s peacekeeper, tricks Abby and Lou into spending time together after a tricky romantic mishap drove a wedge between them. Bad blood appears to subside, but its relevance dissolves in the face of a much larger problem: when the group runs into a war veteran they know from high school, a nighttime hangout session turns sour and the women of «black rock» have to confront something far more dangerous-and heavily armed- than their feelings.

Synopsis

Synopsis

The film is inspired by the book ACAB by Carlo Bonini – published in Italy by Giulio Einaudi Editore – which tells a true story. ACAB stands for « All Cops Are Bastards », a slogan first used in England in the 1970’s by skinheads and which quickly become a universal call to urban guerrillas, both in the stadiums and in the streets.

Cobra (Piefrancesco Favino), Nero (Filippo Nigro) and Mazinga (Marco Giallini) are three “bastard riot cops” who, confronting violence on a daily basis, have learned to be targets. The violence in which they are immersed mirrors a chaotic society ruled by hate.  Their only aim is to restore social order and make people respect rules, even if through the use of force.
In the most difficult moment of their own private lives, they meet the young recruit Adriano (Domenico Diele), who’s just joined their unit and needs to be trained. Educating him on legality and order and even on violent law enforcement becomes a means to telling the stories of the controversial riot cops unit, as seen from the inside, set against the background of several of the most shocking episodes of urban violence in contemporary Italian society, from the death of a protestor at the G8 Summit in Genoa in 2001, to the death of a soccer fan, by a police officer’s gun, in 2007.

SYNOPSIS

Spain, 1931. Somewhere in the Pyrénées near the French border, children were born with an unknown disease. They are insensitive to physical pain and grow up with a deranged perception of human values and the world around them. These children are aggressive and violent, going as far as to even hurt themselves. They are an uncontrollable danger, not only for themselves but for everybody around them as well.

Spain, 2000. David, a brilliant neurosurgeon, and his soon to be wife Anais have a terrible car accident. As sole survivor David doesn’t seem to be hurt, however, medical exams show the presence of an advanced lymphoma. His only chance of survival is a bone marrow transplantation.

Just before the civil war, hate and evil are spreading throughout the country. The children suffering from the mysterious syndrome are locked up in an isolated psychiatric asylum where a medical team tries to rehabilitate them. The horrors of the war added to a strange therapy of «learning pain» come to an end but one of the children does not respond to the treatment as expected and turns out to become a living nightmare: Berkano.

When David asks his parents for the bone marrow transplant, they have to confess the truth about him : he was adopted. All questions about his origins are blocked by a wall of silence and terror. On his search for his biological parents, David crosses Berkano’s path, the only survivor of the insensitive children. His life will change forever.

SYNOPSIS

TERRAFERMA is the story of an uncontaminated Sicilian island inhabited mainly by fishermen. Although still barely touched by tourism, the islanders have just begun to alter their mentality and behavior as they have started to realize the economic potential of this new industry. At the same time they often have to deal with illegal aliens flooding the island and a new law requiring them to turn back undocumented people seeking aid. This policy stands in direct contrast with the laws of the sea which require the rescue of anyone in distress.

Terraferma is also the story of a family composed of a stubborn old fisherman, a young woman striving for a better life and a young man seeking his moral compass. All of them will  have to make difficult decisions that will affect their lives forever.

SYNOPSIS

Marseille, February 2, 1994. Omar Raddad, a Moroccan gardener, is sentenced to 18 years for the murder of a wealthy widow for whom he was working. During the investigation, numerous elements seemed to indicate that the inspection has not been done properly. The alteration of the date of the victim’s death, untaken fingerprints on the crime scene,  the sudden suspicious incineration of the victim’s body, the disappearance of witness that could have helped Omar…. However, all these elements combined were not enough in the eyes of a legal system revealed as self-satisfied, incapable of admitting its own errors, and to no small degree, racist.

In 1994, a journalist convinced by Raddad’s innocence, started to defend his case. Together they investigated one of the most shocking miscarriages of justice of the last 20 years.  Their conclusion is that there are two justices, one for the powerful, one for the poor. The universal matter of social injustice, a symbol here in that case, but a reality that we can all face in every society and fight for.

7 years after his incarceration, Omar Raddad received a presidential pardon from Jacques Chirac but was not proved innocent. To this day, Omar continues the battle to prove his innocence. A battle against a «justice» that resembles a nightmare straight out of Kafka. A battle of a trapped man fought with all the righteous anger of a one claiming his innocence since 1994.
